Society bridge awards (ASH RTAF/Scholar, ASCO/Conquer Cancer YIA & CDA, AACR career grants, LLS, ACS) commonly fund the gap between fellowship and a K.

K-prep checklist
- Identify primary mentor + co-mentor/advisory committee early (12–18 months out).
- Define a focused, fundable aims page; get it read by a K awardee in your division.
- Secure institutional commitment letter (≥75% protected effort).
- Line up a career-development / coursework plan (stats, responsible conduct, etc.).
- Contact the program officer at your target IC (NCI/NHLBI) before submitting.
- Budget for a strong preliminary-data and timeline section.
- Plan letters of reference and biosketches with the "Contributions to Science" narrative.

Where the grant data comes from
The Grant Library and Overview are built from the
NIH RePORTER API,
refreshed weekly by an automated job. We query active
career-development (K-series) awards:
K08, K23, K99, K12, K38, K43, K01, K22, K24.
- Oncology: all such awards administered by the NCI.
- Benign hematology: NHLBI awards whose title/abstract/terms match hematology keywords (sickle cell, thrombosis, bone marrow failure, hematopoiesis, etc.), so we capture blood disorders without pulling in cardiology/pulmonary awards.
How awards are classified
Subarea is assigned by keyword matching on each award's title, abstract, and NIH terms (Leukemia/MDS/MPN, Lymphoma, Myeloma, Cellular therapy/BMT, Immuno-oncology, Benign hematology, Solid tumor, or Other). Research type is heuristic: K23/K12 and awards mentioning clinical/patient-oriented language are tagged "Patient-oriented / Clinical"; the rest "Laboratory / Translational." These are approximations — use the linked RePORTER record as the source of truth.
Funding opportunities (non-NIH)
The Funding tab lists society & foundation awards that commonly support heme/onc fellows (ASH, Conquer Cancer/ASCO, LLS/Blood Cancer United, Damon Runyon, ACS, AACR, plus disease-specific foundations and others). It is manually curated and verified against each funder's official page. Amounts/deadlines change yearly and many run on recurring cycles — treat each card as a pointer and confirm on the official page. It complements the NIH-only Grant Library.
Conference deadlines
Conference data is manually curated and verified against each society's official call-for-abstracts. Deadlines change yearly; the "last verified" date is shown on the Conference Deadlines tab. Official sources:

Limitations & corrections
- RePORTER reflects funded NIH awards only — foundation/society/industry awards are not included.
- Award amounts shown are the most recent fiscal year's funding for each project.
- Subarea/type classification is automated and imperfect.
